What You’ll Learn from this Episode:

Develop a better relationship with yourself

What makes you stand out as an instructor

Separate your personal and professional life

Here’s the Complete List of Tips:

These questions help you develop a better relationship with yourself and your personality. To create a persona, we first have to know ourselves, so we know which “dials” to turn. These will help you dig a little deeper and clearly define what makes you, YOU as a stand-out as an instructor or trainer.

  1. Whats Your Origin Story. What brought you to where you are right now? Is there something unique about your journey? Have you experienced something that you feel your clients can relate to?
  2. Know Your Why? What or who inspired you to become a teacher or trainer. And why is Fitness the vehicle for you to share your message, story, knowledge with others?
  3. What Unique Skills or Talents Do You Bring to the Table? Are you really good at something unrelated to fitness that can influence how you train or teach? Or are you exceptionally gifted at a particular style or modality within the fitness industry?
  4. What Makes You Excited About Being a Teacher or Trainer? What makes you get out of bed in the morning? What motivates and inspires you to step in front of a group of people. What are your favorite parts of your job?
  5. What Makes You Different? Why would someone choose to work with you or take your class over someone elses? What additional benefits might come from training with you that clients wouldnt necessarily expect. How can you make sure that the experience you provide is different from others?
  6. What is Your Personal Mantra or Mission Statement? Do you have a statement or quote that you live by? Do you have personal standard or values that define your actions and behavior? How can you incorporate these into your teaching? Try writing a Mission Statement for yourself as a teacher or trainer. Your Mission Statement should be short paragraph, 3 5 sentences, summarizing your message and what you offer to those who work and train with you.
  7. If You Could Write a Love-letter to Your Clients What You Would You Say? While the intention of this letter is for your clients, this letter is really for you! Simply writing this down and going back to it now and then will keep you connected to your message and your Why, fill you up and support how you cue and motivate your clients and re-ignite your inspiration at times when you might be feeling a bit burnt out, frustrated or low on energy for your sessions and classes.

Creating a Persona or Alter Ego is not only a great tool for creating an exceptional client experience but will also help you separate your personal life from your professional life. A good Persona is fully developed and has his/her own goals, objectives, rituals and habits.

Try not to think of your Persona as a act but rather a finely tuned version of yourself that you present to the world in order to deliver an impactful message and meaningful experience for your group classes and clients that they will never forget.

  1. Define a Mission Statement for Your Persona. Is it the same as your own? Or slightly different? What inspirational phrases, motivational cues do they use to articulate this mission.
  2. Give Your Persona Some Panache. How does he/she speak, what is their vocal quality and cadence? Is it strong and assertive, or soothing and sensual? Is he/she sassy, daring, bold, flamboyant or confidant, measured, warm or wise. Does your persona have any signature physical movements or gestures? Maybe they have a certain way of demonstrating an exercise or giving a cue, perhaps they flip their hair, hive five after a big challenge or dance around the room.
